Clinical Nutrition
The food we put in our bodies has a direct effect on our physiology and so eating nutritious foods will profoundly improve ones health and wellbeing. Nutrition is essentially about determining which nutrients a person needs and getting them to eat more foods containing these nutrients. More importantly, nutrition is about optimizing the body’s ability to absorb and utilize nutrients, as well as understanding where our food comes from. I am passionate about the environmental impact of our food choices and my goal is to help my patients develop a healthy relationship with food by teaching them how to incorporate more nutritious, plant-based foods into their lifestyle, and teaching them how to appreciate foods in their whole, organic, unprocessed and natural forms.

Botanical Medicine
Botanical medicine, also known as herbalism, is essentially the natural version of prescribing medications. Many drugs are produced by chemically extracting, isolating or synthesizing molecules from plants.  Herbs on the other hand provide some of the same molecules but in a whole plant form which the body can easily recognize and process without some of the undesired side effects that many drugs can cause. I treat a variety of health problems using botanicals in the form of teas, alcohol extracts, supplements or topical preparations, depending on the condition and patient preference.

Homeopathy
Homeopathic remedies are made using very dilute substances which I frequently use to delve into the mental-emotional aspects of one's health.

Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is centred on the concept that the body has a vital energy known as “Qi”, which circulates through the entire body along pathways known as meridians. Qi provides the body with the energy needed to drive all physiological processes and when this energy flow is blocked or imbalanced the body gets sick or loses optimal function. Chinese medicine and acupuncture work on restoring flow of Qi and blood in the meridians to bring balance to all organ systems in the body.

Physical Medicine
The presence of pain, immobility, acute or chronic injuries, and reduced athletic performance are common problems that can be addressed with physical medicine. I offer functional assessments to determine the root cause of your symptoms and use treatments such as acupuncture, electrotherapies, hydrotherapy, chiropractic manipulations, trigger point injections and neural therapy. I also offer consultations on diet, lifestyle, and athletic training to optimize strength, coordination, mobility, stamina and aerobic capacity.

IV Nutrient Therapies
IV (intravenous) nutrient therapy provides the body with a high dose of vitamins and minerals that bypass digestion and get immediately absorbed into the body without causing the digestive disturbances that commonly occur while taking some oral supplements.

Injection Therapies
Intramuscular nutrient injections provide the body with absorbable forms of nutrients such as vitamin B12 and B complex vitamins.

Neural therapy involves injections of very small amounts of local anesthetic just below the skin which is useful in supporting acute and chronic pain associated with nerve, muscle and ligament damage, as well as scar tissue adhesions and painful trigger points.

Laboratory Testing
Laboratory tests cab be useful to diagnose certain conditions and to monitor disease progression over time. It can also be a useful tool to determine which treatments would be most appropriate and to assess treatment effectiveness. I provide requisitions for testing through Life Labs and offer the following in-office testing:

  • Food Sensitivity Testing
  • Salivary and Urine Hormone Testing
  • Micronutrient Analysis
  • Thyroid Function Testing
  • Adrenal Function Testing
  • SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) Breath Test
  • Celiac and Gluten Sensitivity Testing
  • Mold and Environmental Toxins Testing
  • Heavy Metal Testing
  • Microbiome Stool Analysis and Parasite Testing
  • Urinalysis
  • Pregnancy Test

Prescription Authority
Naturopathic physicians in British Columbia are licensed to prescribe pharmaceuticals upon successful completion of an extensive training and certification program. I choose to prescribe pharmaceutical medications when necessary to manage certain conditions.
